چکیده
The specification for this project called for a “multi-user space trading game to be played on the web”, which uses a database for storage of game data. The game must be implemented in a language that supports CGI (such as Perl or PHP), Java or ASP on the server side, such that no unusual requirements are placed on the web server. The game must operate in one of Mozilla, Firefox or Internet Explorer on a departmental lab machine. The database must be one of PostgreSQL or SQL Server. We additionally laid down the following targets for our game:

Combinatorial Prediction Markets
Several hundred organizations are now using prediction markets to forecast sales, project completion dates, and more. This number has been doubling annually for several years. Most, however, are simple prediction markets, with one market per number forecast, and several traders per market. In contrast, a single combinatorial prediction market lets a few traders manage an entire combinatorial sp...

Many psychology experiments show that individually judged probabilities of the same event can vary depending on the partition of the state space (a framing effect called "partitiondependence"). We show that these biases transfer to competitive prediction markets in which multiple informed traders are provided economic incentives to bet on their beliefs about events. We report results of a short...

Distributed computing systems are composed of various types of services. Providing a reliable and efficient distributed computing environment largely depends on the effective management of these services. One important aspect of managing services within a distributed computing environment is maintaining information about the services, especially at run-time. To facilitate this, much work has be...

The “ZIP” adaptive automated trading algorithm has been demonstrated to outperform human traders in experimental studies of continuous double auction (CDA) markets populated by mixtures of human and “software robot” traders. Previous papers have shown that values of the eight parameters governing behavior of ZIP traders can be automatically optimized using a genetic algorithm (GA), and that mar...
